About this size: 138 × 177 px, 15–40 KB

A physical size such as 3.5 × 4.5 cm only becomes a file size once a resolution is chosen. This preset uses 100 DPI, so the photo is 138 × 177 pixels and tagged at 100 DPI, which keeps the file small while the stated size stays right. If a form asks for a different DPI, switch to the Size tab and change it.

Everything runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded. The preset sets the size to 138 × 177 px and the file size to 15–40 KB; you can change either in the options.

How to use it

  1. Drop your photo on the box, or click to choose a file. JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC all work.
  2. The preset "Photo 3.5 × 4.5 cm, 15–40 KB" is already selected. Move the frame to crop the part you want; its shape is locked to this size.
  3. Press Resize image. The tool finds the best quality that fits the file size.
  4. Check the preview and the size shown, then download the JPG and upload it to the form.

Frequently asked questions

Is 3.5 × 4.5 cm the same as 35 × 45 mm?

Yes. 1 cm is 10 mm, so 3.5 × 4.5 cm is exactly 35 × 45 mm. It is the standard passport photo size for India, the UK and the Schengen area. For printing copies use the Passport Size Photo Maker.

How do I get the photo under 40 KB?

Choose the image, keep this preset and press Resize image. The tool lowers the JPG quality in small steps, and scales the picture down only if it has to, until the file is below 40 KB. The result shows the final size.

Does 1 KB mean 1000 or 1024 bytes?

Websites count differently, so the tool aims at 1000 bytes per KB for the maximum, which passes either way, and 1024 for the minimum.

Is my photo uploaded to your server?

No. The image is resized in your browser and never leaves your device.
