What is the UUID Generator?
A UUID (also called a GUID) is a 128-bit ID that is practically guaranteed to be unique, so it can be created anywhere without checking a central database. UUIDs are used as database keys, request IDs, file names and API identifiers.
Choose v4 for fully random IDs, or v7 for IDs that start with a timestamp, so they sort in the order they were created and work better as database primary keys. IDs are made with your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator.
How to use it
- Pick UUID v4 (random) or v7 (time-ordered).
- Choose how many you need, from 1 to 1,000.
- Set the format: uppercase, without hyphens, or wrapped in braces.
- Press Generate, then copy all of them or download a .txt file.

Features
- v4 and v7. Random v4 IDs, or v7 IDs with a millisecond timestamp that sort by creation time (RFC 9562).
- Bulk. Up to 1,000 UUIDs at a time, each one unique.
- Formatting. Uppercase, no hyphens, or {braces} for Windows-style GUIDs.
- Secure randomness. Uses crypto.getRandomValues, the same source browsers use for encryption keys.
- Inspect any UUID. Paste a UUID to see its version, and the creation time for v7.
- Copy or download. Copy one ID with a click, copy them all, or save a .txt file.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between UUID v4 and v7?
v4 is entirely random. v7 starts with the current time in milliseconds followed by random bits, so v7 IDs sort in creation order. That makes v7 better for database primary keys because new rows go at the end of the index.
Can two UUIDs ever be the same?
In practice, no. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits. You would need to generate about a billion UUIDs every second for 85 years to have a 50% chance of a single duplicate.
Is a UUID the same as a GUID?
Yes. GUID is Microsoft’s name for the same thing. Windows often shows GUIDs in uppercase and wrapped in braces, which you can choose in the format options.
Are these UUIDs safe to use as secrets?
They are made with a secure random generator, but UUIDs are designed to be unique, not secret. For passwords or API keys use a dedicated generator with more randomness.
Are the UUIDs stored anywhere?
No. They are created in your browser and are not sent to or saved on our servers.
