What is the Base64 Encoder?
Base64 turns any data, such as text, images or PDFs, into plain letters and numbers that can travel safely through email, JSON, URLs and HTML. Developers use it to embed small images in CSS, send files through APIs and store binary data in text fields.
This encoder handles every language correctly because text is first converted to UTF-8, so Hindi, Gujarati, emoji and ₹ signs all encode properly. Files are read on your device and never uploaded.
How to use it
- Choose Text or File.
- Type or paste text, or drop a file onto the box.
- Pick options: URL-safe Base64, MIME line breaks every 76 characters, or a data URL for files.

Features
- UTF-8 safe. Text in any language and emoji encode correctly, unlike tools that only handle plain English.
- Any file type. Images, PDFs, fonts and more, read directly from your device.
- Data URLs. Get a ready-to-paste data:image/png;base64,… string for HTML and CSS.
- URL-safe option. Replaces + and / with - and _ and drops padding, for URLs, JWTs and file names.
- MIME line wrapping. Breaks lines every 76 characters, as email attachments expect.
- Size shown. See the original and encoded size; Base64 is about 33% larger than the input.
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or private data.
Why is the output bigger than my file?
Base64 uses 4 characters for every 3 bytes, so the result is about 33% larger. Line breaks from the MIME option add a little more.
What is URL-safe Base64?
Standard Base64 uses + and /, which have special meanings in URLs. URL-safe Base64 (RFC 4648) uses - and _ instead and usually drops the = padding.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files are read and encoded by your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, but very large files (over about 50 MB) can make the browser slow because the whole result is shown on the page.
