What is the Image Converter?
Different places want different image formats: a form that only accepts JPG, a website that loads faster with WebP, a logo that needs a transparent PNG, or a Windows icon. The Image Converter changes the format of one image or a whole batch, and downloads them together in a ZIP.
It opens anything your browser can read, including HEIC photos from iPhones in Safari, GIF, BMP, SVG and AVIF. When converting a transparent image to JPG, which cannot store transparency, you choose the background colour.
How to use it
- Drop your images on the box, or click to choose them. Paste works too.
- Choose the format to convert to, and the quality for JPG, WebP or AVIF.
- Pick a background colour if a transparent image is going to JPG or BMP.
- Click Convert. One image downloads directly; several come in a ZIP.
Features
- Six output formats. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF (where the browser supports it), BMP and ICO.
- Bulk conversion. Convert many images at once and download them in one ZIP.
- Reads almost anything. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, AVIF, ICO, and HEIC in Safari.
- Transparency handled. Kept for PNG, WebP, AVIF and ICO; filled with your colour for JPG and BMP.
- Quality control. Choose the quality for lossy formats to balance size and detail.
- Private. Images are converted on your device and never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Open this page in Safari on a Mac, iPhone or iPad, drop the HEIC photos and choose JPG. Other browsers cannot read HEIC yet; on Windows or Android, set your iPhone camera to “Most Compatible” so it saves JPG in future.
PNG or JPG: which should I choose?
JPG for photos (much smaller files). PNG for screenshots, text, logos and anything that needs transparency or sharp edges.
What is WebP and AVIF?
Modern formats that make files 25–50% smaller than JPG at similar quality. All current browsers show WebP; AVIF is newer and slower to create. Older software may not open them.
Can I make an icon (.ico) file?
Yes. Choose ICO. Larger images are scaled down to fit 256 × 256 pixels, the largest standard icon size; smaller images keep their size. Start from a square image for the best result.
Does converting improve quality?
No. Converting can keep quality or lose a little, but cannot add detail that is not in the original.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
