What is the GST Invoice Generator?
A GST tax invoice is the bill a GST-registered business in India issues for a taxable sale. It must show the supplier’s and (for business buyers) the recipient’s GSTIN, a unique invoice number, the date, the place of supply, HSN or SAC codes, the taxable value and the tax charged, and a signature.
This generator handles the rules for you. Enter the GSTINs and it checks them, fills in the states and decides whether the sale is within a state (CGST + SGST, each half the rate) or between states (IGST). Each item can have its own GST rate, and a tax summary by HSN/SAC is added below the items, with the total in words.
You can print the original, duplicate and triplicate copies in one PDF, add a UPI QR code with the exact amount, and keep every invoice in My documents in this browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Enter your business name, address, GSTIN and logo. The state fills in from the GSTIN.
- Add the buyer’s details and GSTIN (leave it empty for a consumer). Change the place of supply if goods go to another state.
- Check the invoice number, date and copy label.
- Add items with HSN/SAC, quantity, rate, discount and GST rate. The split and totals update live.
- Add bank details, a UPI ID and your signature, then download the PDF.
Features
- GSTIN check. Validates the format and the check character of both GSTINs and fills in the states.
- CGST, SGST or IGST. Chooses the split from the supplier state and place of supply, or set it yourself.
- HSN-wise tax summary. A table of taxable value and tax by HSN/SAC code and rate, as GSTR-1 needs.
- Every GST rate. 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 18% and 40%, plus the older 12% and 28% for past invoices.
- Invoice copies. Original for recipient, duplicate for transporter and triplicate for supplier, or all three.
- Amount in words. The total in Indian words (lakh and crore), with round-off to the nearest rupee.
- UPI QR and bank details. Customers scan and pay the exact amount from any UPI app.
- Saved privately. Invoices stay in this browser under My documents, never on our servers.
Frequently asked questions
What must a GST invoice contain?
The supplier’s name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive invoice number of up to 16 characters, unique for the financial year; the date; the recipient’s name, address and GSTIN (if registered); the place of supply; HSN or SAC codes; description, quantity and value; the taxable value; the rate and amount of CGST, SGST or IGST; whether tax is payable on reverse charge; and a signature.
When do I charge CGST + SGST, and when IGST?
If your state (from your GSTIN) and the place of supply are the same, charge CGST and SGST, each at half the rate. If they differ, charge IGST at the full rate. The place of supply is usually where the goods are delivered or where the customer is located.
How many HSN digits do I need?
Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore in the previous year need 4-digit HSN codes on B2B invoices; above ₹5 crore, 6 digits. Services use SAC codes, which start with 99.
Is the GSTIN check a live lookup?
No. It checks the format, state code and check character on your device, which catches almost every typing mistake. To confirm that a GSTIN is active and belongs to a business, search it on the official GST portal.
Do I need an e-invoice (IRN)?
Businesses above the e-invoicing turnover limit must report B2B invoices to the Invoice Registration Portal and print the IRN and QR code it returns. This tool makes regular GST invoices; it does not connect to the IRP.
What is a Bill of Supply?
A composition dealer, or a seller of only exempt goods or services, issues a Bill of Supply instead of a tax invoice, without charging GST. Change the title to “Bill of Supply” and set the tax to No GST.
