What is the GST Calculator?

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is added to the price of most goods and services in India. A business charging GST shows the taxable value, the tax and the total on its invoice. Within a state the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST; for a sale to another state it is charged as IGST.

Use Add GST when you know the price before tax, and Remove GST when you have a GST-inclusive price (an MRP or a quote “including GST”) and need the taxable value. Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services fall in the 5% and 18% slabs, with 40% for luxury and sin goods; the old 12% and 28% rates are kept here for older invoices.

How to use it

  1. Choose Add GST or Remove GST.
  2. Enter the amount and pick the GST rate (or type a custom rate).
  3. Choose within the state (CGST + SGST) or another state (IGST).
  4. Read the taxable value, tax split and total, and copy the breakdown if you need it.

Example

Input
Remove 18% GST from ₹1,180 (within the state)
Output
Taxable value ₹1,000 · CGST 9% ₹90 · SGST 9% ₹90 · Total ₹1,180

Features

  • Add or remove GST. Works from a price before tax or from a GST-inclusive price.
  • Current slabs. 5%, 18% and 40% from GST 2.0, plus 0.25%, 3%, the older 12% and 28%, and any custom rate.
  • CGST, SGST or IGST. Splits the tax for sales within a state, or shows IGST for sales to another state.
  • Every rate at a glance. A table shows the tax and total for your amount at every common rate.
  • Invoice rounding. Amounts are rounded to paise with CGST and SGST always equal.
  • Copy breakdown. Copy the result as text to paste into a message, quote or spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST on a price?

Multiply the price by the rate: GST = price × rate ÷ 100. For ₹1,000 at 18%, GST is ₹180 and the total is ₹1,180.

How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?

Divide by 1 plus the rate: taxable value = price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). For ₹1,180 including 18% GST, that is ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000, so the GST is ₹180. Simply taking 18% off ₹1,180 would be wrong.

What are the GST rates now?

Since 22 September 2025 (GST 2.0), most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with a 40% rate for luxury and sin goods such as tobacco and some large cars. Special rates of 0.25% (rough diamonds) and 3% (gold, silver) remain, and many essentials are exempt. Check the rate for your HSN or SAC code.

When do I charge CGST and SGST, and when IGST?

If the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state, charge CGST and SGST, each half of the rate. If they are in different states, or for imports and exports, charge IGST at the full rate.

Is GST charged on the discounted price?

Yes. A discount shown on the invoice at the time of sale is deducted first, and GST is charged on the reduced price. The Discount Calculator can add tax after discounts for you.
