What is the Income Tax Calculator?
Salaried people and other individuals in India can choose between two tax regimes. The new regime (the default) has lower slab rates and a ₹75,000 standard deduction, and is tax-free up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income thanks to the Section 87A rebate. The old regime has higher rates but allows deductions such as 80C, 80D, HRA and home loan interest.
Enter your salary, other income and deductions to see the tax under both regimes side by side, with the slab-by-slab working, rebate, surcharge and 4% health and education cess. The calculator tells you which regime costs less for you. It uses the slabs from Budget 2025, which also apply in FY 2026-27.
How to use it
- Choose your age group.
- Enter your gross salary for the year and any other income taxed at slab rates (interest, rent, freelance profit).
- If you want to compare with the old regime, fill in your deductions such as 80C, 80D, HRA and home loan interest.
- Compare the total tax in both regimes and see which one saves you more.
Example
Salary ₹18,00,000, 80C ₹1,50,000, 80D ₹25,000, age below 60
New regime ₹1,50,800 · Old regime ₹2,96,400 · The new regime saves ₹1,45,600

Frequently asked questions
What are the new regime tax slabs?
Up to ₹4 lakh: nil; ₹4–8 lakh: 5%; ₹8–12 lakh: 10%; ₹12–16 lakh: 15%; ₹16–20 lakh: 20%; ₹20–24 lakh: 25%; above ₹24 lakh: 30%. A rebate makes the tax zero if taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh, so a salary up to ₹12.75 lakh is tax-free after the ₹75,000 standard deduction.
Which regime is better for me?
The new regime is better for most people unless they claim large deductions. As a rough guide, the old regime starts to win only when deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, home loan interest and so on) add up to several lakh rupees. Enter your numbers above to see the exact difference.
What is marginal relief?
If your taxable income is just above ₹12 lakh, the tax can’t be more than the amount by which your income exceeds ₹12 lakh. Similar relief applies when income crosses a surcharge threshold such as ₹50 lakh or ₹1 crore.
Does this include capital gains?
No. Capital gains, lottery winnings and other income taxed at special rates are not included, and the 87A rebate does not apply to them. Add only income taxed at slab rates here.
Can salaried employees switch regimes every year?
Yes. Salaried individuals without business income can choose the regime each year when filing their return. People with business income can switch back to the new regime only once.
Is this the final tax I will pay?
It is an estimate for planning. Your actual tax can differ because of exempt allowances, other deductions, special-rate income and the tax already deducted (TDS). Check with a tax professional before filing.
