What is the HTML Decoder?

Text scraped from web pages, RSS feeds, CMS exports and APIs often arrives full of entities: & instead of &, ' instead of an apostrophe, instead of a space. The HTML Decoder converts every entity back into the character it stands for.

It understands all 2,231 named entities defined in HTML5, decimal and hexadecimal numeric entities, and the old forms without a closing semicolon that browsers still accept, so the result matches what a browser would show.

How to use it

 1. Paste text that contains HTML entities.
 2. The decoded text appears instantly.
 3. If it still contains entities like <, it was encoded twice: decode the result again.
 4. Copy the decoded text.

Example

Input
Tom & Jerry <3 ₹499 "café"
Output
Tom & Jerry <3 ₹499 "café"

Features

 • All HTML5 entities. Every named entity, from & to ⋣.
 • Numeric entities. Decimal (₹) and hex (🚀) forms, including emoji.
 • Browser-accurate. Handles legacy entities without semicolons the same way browsers do.
 • Tags left alone. Only entities are decoded; any HTML tags in the text stay as they are.
 • Private. Decoding happens in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I see & in my text?

The text was HTML-encoded twice, so the & of an entity was itself encoded. Decode it twice to get back to the original.

What is ?

A non-breaking space: it looks like a normal space but keeps the words on either side on the same line. It decodes to the Unicode character U+00A0.

Will this run scripts in my HTML?

No. The decoder only converts text; nothing is rendered or executed.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Decoding happens in your browser.
