What is the Base64 Decoder?
Paste Base64 from an API, an email attachment, a JWT, a database field or a data: URL, and the decoder turns it back into the original content. Text is shown as readable UTF-8, so Hindi, Gujarati, emoji and symbols come out correctly.
If the Base64 is a file, the decoder recognises the type from its first bytes (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, SVG, PDF, ZIP, MP3, MP4 and more), shows a preview for images and lets you download it with the right file extension. URL-safe Base64, missing padding and line breaks are all handled.
How to use it
- Paste the Base64 text or a data: URL, or click Example.
- Text appears in the output; files are recognised and shown below.
- Preview images directly on the page.
- Download the decoded text or file.

Hello from Nova Free Tools!
Features
- Text or file. Automatically shows text, or recognises the file type for binary data.
- Image preview. PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP and SVG images are previewed on the page.
- Right file extension. Downloads are named .png, .pdf, .zip and so on, based on the actual content.
- Forgiving input. Accepts URL-safe Base64, missing = padding, spaces and line breaks.
- Data URLs. Paste a full data:image/png;base64,… URL and the type is read from it.
- Precise errors. Invalid characters are reported with their exact position.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my decoded text look garbled?
The Base64 probably contains a file or binary data rather than text. The decoder detects common file types and offers a download instead. If it says “binary data”, the content is not text in any standard encoding.
What is URL-safe Base64?
A variant that uses - and _ instead of + and /, and often drops the = padding, so it can be used in URLs and file names. JWTs use it. This decoder accepts both variants automatically.
Can I decode a JWT here?
You can decode each part of a JWT (the parts between the dots) one at a time. The JWT Decoder is quicker: it shows the header, payload and expiry together and can verify the signature.
Is there a size limit?
There is no fixed limit; decoding happens in your browser. Very large inputs (tens of megabytes) may make the page slow.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Decoding happens in your browser, and files are created locally for download.
