What is the CSV to JSON?
Copy rows from Excel or Google Sheets, or open a CSV export, and get JSON ready for an API, a database seed, a test fixture or a mobile app. The first row becomes the keys and every other row becomes an object.
The delimiter is detected automatically, quoted fields with commas, quotes and line breaks are handled correctly, and numbers, true and false are turned into real JSON types. Values that only look like numbers, such as 09876543210 or 007, stay as text so leading zeros are never lost.
How to use it
- Paste CSV or copied spreadsheet cells, upload a .csv file, or click Example.
- Check that “First row is a header” matches your data.
- Choose objects or arrays, and whether to detect types.
- Copy the JSON or download it.
Example
name,age,member Asha,31,true Ravi,,false
[
{ "name": "Asha", "age": 31, "member": true },
{ "name": "Ravi", "age": null, "member": false }
]Features
- Auto delimiter. Detects commas, semicolons, tabs (pasted from Excel) and pipes.
- RFC 4180 parsing. Quoted fields, doubled quotes and line breaks inside cells all work.
- Smart types. Numbers and true/false become JSON values; leading zeros and huge numbers stay as text.
- Header handling. Blank or repeated column names get unique names like column_3 and name_2.
- Objects or arrays. Output an array of objects keyed by header, or an array of rows.
- Private. Your data never leaves your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste directly from Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Copied cells arrive as tab-separated text, and the tab delimiter is detected automatically.
Why is my phone number still text?
Numbers with leading zeros, such as phone numbers, PIN codes and IDs, would lose digits if converted to numbers, so they are kept as text. Integers too big for JavaScript are kept as text too.
What happens to empty cells?
With type detection on, empty cells become null. With it off, they become empty strings.
My file uses semicolons. Will it work?
Yes. Many European and some Indian Excel setups save CSV with semicolons; the delimiter is detected from the first lines.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser.
