What is the JSON to CSV?

APIs and databases export JSON, but spreadsheets want rows and columns. The JSON to CSV converter takes an array of objects and builds a table with one row per item and one column per key, collecting every key that appears in any item.

Nested objects become dotted columns such as address.city, and arrays are written as JSON text in a single cell. The CSV download includes a byte-order mark so Excel shows ₹, Hindi, Gujarati and other characters correctly instead of garbled text.

How to use it

  1. Paste a JSON array of objects, upload a .json file, or click Example.
  2. Choose the delimiter: comma, semicolon (European Excel) or tab.
  3. Check the preview table.
  4. Download the CSV or copy it.

Example

Input
[{"name":"Asha","city":"Pune"},{"name":"Ravi","city":"Surat","vip":true}]
Output
name,city,vip
Asha,Pune,
Ravi,Surat,true

Features

  • All keys become columns. Columns are collected from every object, in the order they first appear.
  • Nested objects. Flattened into dotted columns like address.city, or kept as JSON text.
  • Excel-friendly. Downloads include a UTF-8 byte-order mark so Indian scripts and ₹ display correctly.
  • Proper quoting. Values with commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted as RFC 4180 requires.
  • Formula protection. Optionally neutralise cells starting with = + - @ to prevent spreadsheet formula injection.
  • Preview. See the first rows as a table before you download.

Frequently asked questions

What JSON can I convert?

An array of objects works best, such as an API list response. A single object becomes one row, and an array of plain values becomes one column named value.

Why does my CSV look wrong in Excel?

Excel guesses the encoding and delimiter. The download here includes a byte-order mark so the encoding is detected, and you can switch to semicolons if your Excel uses a comma as the decimal separator.

How are nested arrays handled?

Arrays are written as JSON text in one cell, for example ["red","blue"], because a single cell cannot hold a list in CSV.

What is formula injection?

A cell starting with =, +, - or @ can run as a formula when the CSV is opened in a spreadsheet, which attackers can abuse. The protection option adds an apostrophe in front so the cell is shown as text.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser.
