What is the PDF to Text?
Copying text straight from a PDF often gives broken lines, missing spaces and words split in half. This tool reads the text of every page and rebuilds it into proper paragraphs, ready to paste into a document, email or chat.
Choose “Keep line breaks” to keep each line as it appears on the page, which suits addresses, tables and poems. Text-based PDFs (made from Word, browsers or apps) work best. Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages and contain no text to extract.
How to use it
- Drop a PDF on the box, or click to choose one.
- Choose all pages or a page range, and whether to keep line breaks.
- Copy the text, or download it as a .txt file.
Features
- Clean paragraphs. Lines are joined into paragraphs and words split by hyphens are rejoined.
- Keep the layout. Or keep every line break exactly as on the page.
- Page ranges. Extract all pages or only some, with optional page markers.
- Word count. See how many words, characters and pages the text has.
- Any language. Hindi, Gujarati and other scripts come out as real text when the PDF stores them properly.
- Private. Text is read in your browser; the PDF is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Why is no text found?
The PDF is probably a scan: each page is a photo, so there is no text inside it. Text would have to be recognised from the image (OCR), which this tool does not do.
Why does some text come out as strange symbols?
Some PDFs use fonts without a proper character map, so the letters cannot be identified. This is common with older Indian-language PDFs made with non-Unicode fonts. Copying from any PDF reader gives the same result.
Are tables kept?
Tables come out as text with spaces between columns. Turn on “Keep line breaks” so each row stays on its own line.
Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. You will be asked for it when the file opens.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The text is extracted in your browser.
