What is the Lorem Ipsum Generator?
Lorem ipsum is the standard placeholder text designers and developers use to fill layouts before the real content is ready. Because it looks like natural text but cannot be read, people judge the design rather than the words.
Generate exactly the amount you need, start with the classic “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…” or not, and get plain text or ready-to-paste HTML with paragraph or list tags. The words come from the traditional passage based on Cicero’s De finibus.
How to use it
- Choose paragraphs, sentences, words or list items.
- Set how many you need.
- Choose whether to start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” and whether to add HTML tags.
- Copy the text, or press Generate for a new variation.
Example
2 sentences, starting with Lorem ipsum
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
Features
- Four units. Paragraphs, sentences, words or list items.
- Classic opening. Optionally start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit”.
- HTML output. Wraps paragraphs in <p> tags and list items in a <ul>.
- Natural rhythm. Sentences and paragraphs vary in length, like real text.
- Word and character count. Shows how much text was generated.
Frequently asked questions
What does lorem ipsum mean?
It is scrambled Latin from a passage of Cicero’s “De finibus bonorum et malorum” (45 BC). The words are deliberately jumbled so readers focus on layout rather than meaning.
Why not just use real text?
Real text distracts reviewers, who start editing the copy instead of judging the design. Placeholder text also makes it obvious which parts of a page are not finished.
Is there placeholder text in Hindi or other languages?
Lorem ipsum works for any language because nobody reads it. For testing how a layout handles Hindi or Gujarati, paste a sample of real text in that script instead.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. Lorem ipsum is in the public domain; use it anywhere.
