What is the Slug Generator?
A slug is the readable part of a URL that identifies a page, such as /best-budget-phones-2026/. Good slugs are short, lowercase, use hyphens between words and contain the keywords people search for, which helps both readers and search engines.
The Slug Generator converts any title into a slug: accents become plain letters (é → e, ß → ss), symbols such as & and ₹ become words, and everything else is removed. Paste a list of titles to convert them all at once, one per line.
How to use it
- Type or paste a title, or several titles, one per line.
- Choose the separator and whether to remove small words like “the” and “of”.
- Optionally set a maximum length; slugs are cut at a word boundary.

Frequently asked questions
Hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator but an underscore as part of the word, so “nova-tools” reads as two words and “nova_tools” as one.
Should I remove stop words?
Often, yes: shorter slugs are easier to read and share. Keep them when removing them changes the meaning, as in “how-to-train-a-dog” versus “train-dog”.
Can a slug be in Hindi or Gujarati?
Yes. Modern browsers and search engines support Unicode URLs, and they display nicely in Indian scripts. When shared in some apps they may appear percent-encoded, so many sites prefer English or transliterated slugs.
How long should a slug be?
There is no strict limit, but 3–6 words (under about 60 characters) is a good target. Use the maximum length option to keep slugs short.
