What is the Barcode Generator?

Make barcodes for products, shelves, inventory, shipping labels, library books and ID cards. Pick a format, type the value and download a sharp PNG for documents or an SVG that stays crisp at any print size.

For EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and ITF-14, the check digit is worked out for you, or checked if you type it, so you never print a code that will not scan. Batch mode turns a list of values into a sheet of labels you can print or save as a PDF.

How to use it

  1. Choose the barcode format. Use EAN-13 for retail products and Code 128 for anything else.
  2. Type the value, or switch to Batch and paste one value per line.
  3. Adjust the bar width, height, text and colours if needed.
  4. Download PNG or SVG, or print the batch sheet. Test-scan before printing many.

Frequently asked questions

Which barcode type should I use?

For products sold in shops, use EAN-13 (or UPC-A in North America) with a number from GS1. For your own stock, shelves, assets and shipping, Code 128 is the best general choice: it is compact and encodes letters, digits and symbols.

Can I make my own EAN-13 number for products?

You can generate the barcode for any number, but to sell through retailers and marketplaces you need a registered number from GS1 India, which ties the barcode to your company. Made-up numbers may clash with real products.

What is a check digit?

The last digit of an EAN, UPC or ITF-14 code, calculated from the other digits. Scanners use it to catch misreads. Enter the code without it and it is added for you; enter it and it is checked.

What size should I print a barcode?

EAN-13 is designed for about 37 × 26 mm at 100% size, and can be printed from 80% to 200%. Keep the white margin (quiet zone) on both sides, use dark bars on a light background and test-scan a sample before printing in bulk.

Why will my barcode not scan?

Common causes are low contrast (light bars or a dark background), a missing quiet zone, printing too small, or stretching the image unevenly. Download the SVG for print, which stays sharp at any size.
